27/3 Day Eight Of Game Project 2

Today was a bit of a tense and hectic day for most of us. Many were showing signs of extreme lethargy and defocus. We keep the conversation going though and reach out to eachother when questions arise, which means that no one beats around the bush when something simply does not work. I think this is exactly what great teams are supposed to be doing. Being clear is definitely of the essence here.

We started off the day with only a single programmer, since one programmer called in sick and another, who is struggling with sleep, did not come in until after noon.

At the stand up meeting, I informed everyone in the group about the revised version of the GDD and that everyone should give it a thorough read today before leaving and provide insights and feedback if needed.

I finally got some time to work on some puzzle concepts with pen and paper and started to elaborate on two puzzles I'm currently working on. One introductory puzzle and one which is a bit more advanced. The latter needs some more work, though.

The programmers made some progress and managed to implement the specular shader and also scripting for us designers to use later. Considering the circumstances, a lot was done today.

The artists also had a tough day with a lengthy meeting in the afternoon. But at the end of it, they had finally decided upon a theme and setting of the game. They will spend the rest of the concept weeks to research, make mockups and come up with a storyline during this time. However, we are thinking that the narrative will be integrated in the environment in an implicit manner rather then in an explicit one.

Even though it proved to be a tough day, it was also surprisingly productive. Hopefully, tomorrow will be even more so.
